I found a “dinosaur hoodie” tutorial online and fell in love! It looked pretty easy to make so I decided I would try to make one for Andrew for Christmas. It turned out so cute! It’s a little too big right now but in 2 months it should be perfect. (original tutorial link here: https://diyingtobedomestic.wordpress.com/2011/09/23/dinosaur-hoodie/. Thanks, Tasha!).
I found a plain navy blue fleece sweatshirt at Wal-Mart and it was only $8. Score! The hood lining was red so I decided that I would get some red felt to use for the scales. I bought 4 pieces of red felt at JoAnns Fabrics and it only cost $1.30. I already had red thread so my total cost for this hoodie was roughly $10 – do the happy dance!
First, you fold the piece of felt in half (lengthwise). I pinned the edge to keep it from separating.
Next, cut your triangles out like so:
You’re cutting them with the crease on the bottom so you can open it up to lay on the hoodie.
Lay the triangle pieces on the back of the hoodie and pin alongside the seam.
Sew down the center of the triangle pieces.
Once all of the triangles are sewn onto the hoodie, pin them all together to make the scales. Sew the scales together along the edges of the triangle.
That’s it! Now your little one has a super cute and custom made dinosaur hoodie!!
This cutie was running around in his Christmas present and had no idea! Haha!
